Welcome to the American Constitution Society (ACS)
ACS is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that was established as a progressive response to the Bush v. Gore decision. Our mission is to preserve the rule of law and the legitimacy of our democracy, all with a progressive vision that the Constitution and our laws should protect and advance the lives of all people.
Our work is focused largely on three key areas: building a pipeline of progressive, diverse legal leaders who are well equipped to step into positions of legal authority, shaping dialogue and policy on civil and human rights issues through our more than 1,400 programs, convenings, and candidate forums annually, and advancing the rule of law and constitutional order by advocating for new ideas and diverse voices to inform the law.
The power of ACS is found in the expansive network of lawyers, law students, scholars, judges, advocates, and others who are the heart and soul of this work. We have over 250 lawyer and law student chapters that are active in nearly every single state and every single law school in the country. As a result, this network that numbers in the tens of thousands is able to mobilize on issues national in scope down to the hyper-local.
