Washington, DC – The Department of Justice has filed federal charges against former President Trump for events related to his attempted subversion of the 2020 presidential election. In response, the American Constitution Society released the following statement:
“Former President Trump led a concerted effort to subvert the 2020 presidential election and overturn the will of the American people, according to the U.S. Department of Justice’s indictment. Accountability for the unprecedented attempt to overthrow our democracy is critical to preserving the rule of law and preventing future election subversion,” said ACS President Russ Feingold. “We applaud the DOJ’s relentless and fact-driven investigation. Today’s indictment of former President Trump follows the prosecution of hundreds of other people involved in the January 6th insurrection and the fake electors scheme. To preserve the rule of law and ensure the security of future elections, accountability must go all the way to the top. There can be no title or position that bestows immunity for the attempted overthrow of our democracy.”
