Washington, D.C.  – American Constitution Society President Russ Feingold released the following statement in response to the untimely passing this week of Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Chief Ralph Gants:

“I join with others in mourning the sudden and profound loss of Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Chief Ralph Gants, and offer my condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

Justice Gants was a thoughtful jurist of the utmost integrity who had a deep commitment to constitutional principles and an unwavering belief that the justice system should work for all, especially those who are too often disenfranchised or discriminated against by that system. His work to identify racial disparities in the Massachusetts court system was ahead of its time, and the kindness and humanity he displayed throughout his life and career serve as an example to us all.”
