Ways to Stay in Engaged While You Stay Home: October 1 Edition
Network Advancement Associate
During these unprecedented times, ACS continues to provide a virtual forum for our network to engage and work toward a Constitution that is truly “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” Here are some ways to help you stay engaged while in-person events are canceled. Do you have ideas we should include in future editions? Let us know by emailing info@acslaw.org!
One of our amazing lawyer members, together with The Board of Elections of Cuyahoga County, OH (Cleveland), is reprising an election-year program for out-of-state-lawyers to become credentialed, non-partisan employees of the Cuyahoga Board of Elections and assist in a smooth running election day. Volunteers for this effort are even more critical this year and will assist as rovers and staffing a hotline for election workers. Training will be provided the weekend before Election Day and volunteers will need to be available through Election Day. Funds are available to help with travel costs. If you are interested in participating or have any questions, please contact Ashley Erickson at aerickson@acslaw.org.
The Government Accountability Project, the nation's leading whistleblower protection and advocacy organization, recently launched the Democracy Protection Initiative (DPI), which seeks to protect democracy by supporting employees who choose to blow the whistle on illegality and abuses of power aimed at undermining the election or sabotaging the peaceful transition of power. GAP has an immediate need for attorneys to help with whistleblower intakes and legal analysis of cases. Training will be provided and the time commitment is around 5 hours per intake. Volunteers are welcome to help with as many intakes as they have time for and the project will run until shortly after the election. If you are interested in participating or have any questions, please contact Ashley Erickson at aerickson@acslaw.org.
The National Equality Action Team (NEAT) is hosting virtual phones banks to encourage individuals to let their senators know the SCOTUS vacancy should not be filled until after the inauguration. Volunteers can make remote calls anywhere, any day, and at almost any time that’s convenient. NEAT provides an easy web calling tool, a script, quick OnDemand video training, and live support for volunteers. If you would like to get involved, sign up here and indicate that ACS referred you.
