2012 ACS National Convention: "Democracy at Stake"The ACS Convention brought together more than 1,000 of the nation's top lawyers, judges, law students, policymakers, scholars and activists to learn, debate and strategize. Participants took advantage of the opportunity to engage with exciting speakers, participate in rigorous debate and discussion of critical legal and public policy issues, network with lawyers and company representatives from around the country, and contribute to the development of a progressive vision of the Constitution, the law and public policy. Featured speakers – U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray, and California Supreme Court Justice Goodwin Liu – wowed the audience. Participants also chose from 15 panel discussions on a range of cutting-edge law and policy topics, including the constitutionality of health care reform, state immigration laws, marriage equality, economic and racial inequality, voting rights, Citizens United, juvenile justice and climate change.
