Using Litigation to Secure Constitutional Rights

Please join the American Constitution Society and Native American Law Student Association student chapters in welcoming ACS National Board Member Ambassador (ret.) Keith M. Harper. Ambassador Harper is currently a Partner at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP in Washington DC. Prior to that, he was the United States Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland. He is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, focuses his practice on Native American affairs, litigation, and international clients from the private as well as the public sector.

Ambassador Harper's discussion will focus on how to use litigation to secure rights and redress harms to the disenfranchised and the strategic decisions that go in to this type of work. Ambassador Harper will also be discussing his work on Cobell v. Salazar, the landmark Indian trust funds lawsuit that settled for $3.4 million in 2009 which represents the largest settlement of a lawsuit against the United States in history.
