September Speaker Series - Discussion with Professor Hadar Aviram

The ACS UC Hastings student chapter is happy to welcome a leading voice on criminal justice, courtroom practices, policing, punishment, and incarceration, Professor Hadar Aviram this Thursday at noon.

On behalf of the ACLU of Northern CA and a group of individual practitioners, Professor Aviram filed a brief in support of consolidated habeas corpus petitions submitted by dozens of incarcerated individuals at San Quentin Prison to the Marin Superior Court. Petitioners assert that the Warden of San Quentin's continued incarceration of the San Quentin prison population is a violation of the Eighth Amendment protection against cruel and unusual punishment.

In alignment with Professor Aviram’s knowledge and expertise he will be leading a discussion workshop on COVID-19's effect on the criminal justice system, prison conditions, and the Eighth Amendment.
