Redeeming Justice: A Conversation with Jarrett Adams and Stephen Bright
Join ACS's Executive Vice President Zinelle October and the Austin, Chicago, Georgia, Los Angeles, Madison, Michigan, Milwaukee, Nashville, and Washington, D.C. ACS Lawyer Chapters; and the University of Arizona, UC Irvine, Chicago-Kent, University of Georgia, Howard, Iowa, Marquette, NYU, UNC, and UVA ACS Student Chapters as we host ACS friends Jarrett Adams and Stephen Bright for a discussion on Jarrett's forthcoming book: Redeeming Justice: From Defendant to Defender, My Fight for Equity on Both Sides of A Broken System.
Jarrett was convicted at age 17 of a crime he did not commit and was sentenced to 28 years in a maximum security prison. After serving nearly a decade and filing multiple appeals, he was exonerated with the assistance of the Wisconsin Innocence Project. Jarrett used the injustice he endured as inspiration to become an advocate for the underserved. He graduated from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2015 and started a public interest law fellowship with Hon. Ann Claire Williams, then of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the same court that reversed his conviction. He also clerked in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York with the late Hon. Deborah Batts. He worked for the Innocence Project of New York and now works for the Law Office of Jarrett Adams, PLLC, practicing in both federal and state courts throughout the country. He has founded a non-profit called Life After Justice aiming to empower exonerees to thrive while starting to reclaim their lives after justice. You can pre-order Jarrett's book here.
