Reading Group: Reforms to Save the Supreme Court
For our first reading group of the year, we will discuss a forthcoming article in the Yale Law Journal titled "How to Save the Supreme Court" by professors Daniel Epps and Ganesh Sitaraman.
Dinner will be provided.
Given the blockade of Merrick Garland's nomination and the subsequent conservative majority on the Court with the confirmations of Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, "preserving the Court’s legitimacy as an institution above politics will require a complete rethinking of how the Court works and how the Justices are chosen." In their article, Epps and Sitaraman evaluate current proposals to reform the Court and advance several of their own.
Are reforms actually required? Are the proposals by Epps and Sitaraman the best proposals? Join the discussion!
