Judge Jon S. Tigar on the Role of a District Judge
Please join ACS in welcoming Judge Jon S. Tigar of the District Court for the Northern District of California who will discuss the role of the district judge.
Judge Tigar began his legal career as a litigation associate at Morrison & Foerster, then served a a public defender in San Francisco. After that, he practiced complex commercial litigation at law firm Keker & Van Nest. In 2002, Judge Tigar became a judge on the Alameda County Superior Court before being nominated as a District Judge by President Obama in 2012 for the Northern District of California and confirmed by the Senate.
Judge Tigar is a an Adviser for the American Law Institute on the forthcoming Restatement (Third) of Torts: Liability for Economic Loss. He earned his JD from UC Berkeley School of Law where he graduated Order of the Coif and served as an Articles Editor of the California Law Review. He served as a law clerk for United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit Judge Robert Smith Vance.
