Gideon's Trumpet Screening
UGA Law ACS will be screening the film Gideon's Trumpet Thursday, February 28, at 4:30, in Room C. The screening will be preceded by a brief introduction by Professor Julian Cook.
This riveting filmic adaptation of Anthony Lewis's novel follows the 1961-1963 trials of Clarence Gideon, who was arrested for petty theft and, unable to afford a lawyer, represented himself at trial. Gideon's case makes its way to the Supreme Court, and results in the establishment of the right to be appointed legal counsel that Americans enjoy today.
