Are Guantanamo Detainees Entitled to Due Process Rights?
Shane Kadidal, Senior Managing Attorney from the Center for Constitutional Rights will be speaking about the progress made in securing rights for detainees at Guantanamo, from habeas corpus to due process. The question of whether Guantanamo detainees are entitled to due process rights is in front of the D.C. Circuit and after a rehearing en banc, is awaiting delivery. Kadidal has been at the forefront of litigation on behalf of detainees at Guantanamo and is one of the resident experts on this area of law— once thought by the Bush administration to be the legal equivalent of outer space. On the 20th anniversary of the opening of the detention center at Guantanamo, we reflect on the gains made for individuals labeled "enemy combatants," and where we go from here now that there are still 49 men remaining.
This event will be held on Zoom.
