ACS Chicago: Disability & Voting Rights: Accessing the Fundamental Right to Vote

(Hybrid) Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, Chicago, IL

Voting rights remains a top priority for many civil rights groups, but many are less familiar with the civil rights of voters with disabilities and how they factor into the larger conversation and strategy on this issue. Please join the ACS Chicago Lawyer Chapter and the ACS Northwestern Student Chapter for a panel discussion that will provide an overview of the rights of people with disabilities when voting. The panelists will discuss how federal disability rights laws protect voters with disabilities as well as current litigation challenging barriers to voters with disabilities, including voter suppression laws and inaccessible polling places. We will also hear directly from impacted voters with disabilities who have faced barriers to vote in states where laws have made it harder to vote by mail and receive the assistance they need to vote.
