Message from ACS Board Chair Peter Karanjia
Dear ACS Friends and Allies,
Thank you so much for your continued support of ACS. This crucial support empowers our organization to continue its vital work on multiple fronts, including safeguarding longstanding constitutional rights at a time when democracy and the rule of law continue to be under sustained attack. Just a few examples illustrate how your support has helped make a real difference:
State courts are increasingly on the frontlines of vindicating our fundamental freedoms and upholding the rule of law. This is why we expanded our work to identify, recruit, and support diverse, qualified judicial candidates for state courts from 8 to 15 states this year. This is on top of our work with the White House and Senate offices to maximize federal judicial confirmations.
We know that tomorrow’s judges will come predominantly from today’s law clerks. That’s why we expanded our clerkship assistance program this year, selecting 40 outstanding applicants to benefit from coaching on strategy and navigating the clerkship application process itself; connections with former clerks and others who know judges; and direct recommendations to judges in our network. We also expanded our mentor matching program for clerkship applicants from 40 in 2022 to 90 this year.
ACS and its chapters hosted nearly 1,000 programs, 54 podcast episodes, and several convenings (including sessions hosted by our unique State Attorneys General Project) on urgent and emerging issues.
As we look to the challenges and opportunities ahead, I am honored to be handing over the baton as Chair of the ACS Board of Directors to Roscoe Jones, Jr. Roscoe has been on the ACS Board since 2020 and is a tireless champion of ACS. I will remain on the Board and look forward to supporting Roscoe, ACS President Russ Feingold, and the ACS staff as we continue to advance ACS’s role in the years ahead—work that would not be possible without your continued support.
Warmest regards,
Peter Karanjia
Chair, ACS National Board of Directors
