ACS Supports BLM at School's Week of Action, Year of Purpose
American Constitution Society President Russ Feingold released the following statement today in support of Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action, January 31-February 4:
"Last year, ACS announced our commitment to truth, racial healing, and transformation (TRHT) and we continue our work in this movement in 2022.
This week, we further these efforts by supporting Black Lives Matter at School’s Week of Action. The Week of Action is a continuation of Black Lives Matter at School’s Year of Purpose, which focuses on implementing resources on restorative justice and creating more opportunities for teachers and students of color. During this week, Black Lives Matter at School encourages educators, students, parents, unions, and community organizations to get involved and raise awareness for Black Lives Matter at School’s Demands and 13 Guiding Principles.
We support inclusive and culturally responsive curricula that teach the truth about American history. We encourage our members to organize discussions in their communities about the importance of truth-telling and exposing the frameworks that perpetuate systemic racism in our schools, laws, and legal systems.
I hope you will join us this week by sharing the Week of Action on your social media channels and with your family and community. Our support will continue throughout the rest of the year, as we join Black Lives Matter at School’s Year of Purpose.
