American Constitution Society Announces New Board of Directors Members

Washington, DC — Today, the American Constitution Society (ACS) announced the selection of three new members of its board of directors. 

The new members include: 

• Gabriella Barbosa, policy director at the Children's Partnership California–based children’s advocacy organization committed to improving the lives of underserved children, 
• Michele Goodwin, Chancellor's Professor at the University of California Irvine School of Law, and
• Zoraima Pelaez, a student at the University of Texas School of Law. 

“I am honored to welcome these three outstanding leaders and public advocates to serve on our board,” said Peter Karanjia, chair of the ACS Board of Directors. “All three have made meaningful contributions to the legal field and in their own communities. The entire organization, as well as our student and lawyer networks, will benefit greatly from their leadership ” 

Pelaez is a rising third-year law student at the University of Texas School of Law and president of the ACS Texas Law Student Chapter, where she helped launch a program in collaboration with Law Students for Black Lives aimed at incorporating principles of racial justice into the first-year law school core curriculum. Pelaez will serve a two-year term as a student member of the board

Goodwin is one of the world's foremost experts on regulatory medical and biotech law. In addition to her position at University of California Irvine School of Law, she serves as director of the Center for Biotechnology and Global Health Policy.  

Barbosa is the co-chair of the ACS Los Angeles Lawyers Chapter and policy director for the Children's Partnership, where she leads national and statewide advocacy campaigns centered on child health equity with a focus on marginalized communities.
