ACS Stands in Solidarity with Workers Demanding Their Voices Be Heard

Washington, D.C.  – American Constitution Society President Russ Feingold released the following statement in response to the majority of Amazon's workers in Bessemer, Ala., voting against joining the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union.

"ACS is deeply disappointed by today’s news about the initial outcome in Bessemer, Alabama. The right to unionize in this country is pivotal to protecting workers’ rights and to giving workers their well-earned seat at the table. The actions taken by Amazon to discourage and obstruct the formation of a union in Bessemer were appalling and illustrative of the ongoing assault on labor in this country.

ACS stands in solidarity with the workers across the country who will take today’s outcome as further motivation to demand their voices be heard. Every successful company has labor to thank for its success. Labor is the backbone of this country, and to be pro-labor is to be pro-union.

 We support the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union’s continued efforts to support the Amazon workers in Bessemer and to address the egregious actions taken by Amazon to prevent unionization."
