ACS President Says Americans Deserve Fair-Minded Supreme Court Justices

Washington, D.C.  – American Constitution Society President Russ Feingold released the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s release of a Supreme Court short list.

“The names on the Supreme Court short list released today represent more potential Supreme Court Justices in the vein of Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch. Conservatives such as Leonard Leo have talked about using the courts to carry out a vision of returning our country to a pre-New Deal, early Twentieth Century era. This is a vision that involves rolling back hard-fought rights Americans care deeply about -- racial justice, gun control, LGBTQ+ rights, the environment, reproductive justice, consumer protections, workers’ rights and the list goes on. The American public deserves to have fair-minded Supreme Court justices and other federal judges who share a vision of the Constitution as a force to improve the lives of all people and is dedicated to advancing democracy, justice, and equality.”
