Fall 2012 Program Guide: Voting Rights

The American Constitution Society for Law & Policy is pleased to present our fall 2012 Voting Rights Program Guide and Speakers List. In light of the flurry of activity surrounding the looming presidential election, ACS encourages lawyer and student chapters to plan events this fall that can illuminate issues impacting the right to vote.  After witnessing record voter turnout over the past two elections, many states have introduced or enacted initiatives that could reverse efforts to increase voter participation.  Photo identification requirements, barriers to voter registration, cutbacks to early voting, and challenges to key protections of the Voting Rights Act restrict citizens' right to vote.  At the same time, other efforts have been launched to take advantage of new technologies and our Constitution itself to ensure our elections can be conducted fairly and with integrity.  Events that explore issues relating to the franchise provide an excellent opportunity to engage with national, state, and local officials, advocates, and scholars.
