Each webinar features an experienced attorney within the ACS network. Pathways to Clerkships
A distinguished panel of judges discuss the benefits of a judicial clerkship, what to expect from clerking, their advice on the application process, and what they look for in clerkship candidates. Speakers will include Judge Beverly Martin (11th Cir.), Judge George Hazel (D. Md.), and Judge Kim Jolson (M.J., S.D. Ohio) and the discussion will be moderated by ACS’s Vice President of Strategic Engagement Jill Dash.

Guest Speaker: Brette Steele
Brette Steele is currently Counsel in the Office of Legal Policy at the Department of Justice. She graduated from UCLA School of Law in 2007 and clerked for Judge Dorothy Nelson on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Following her clerkship, Ms. Steele worked as an appellate associate at Mayer Brown LLP. She has been an ACS Next Generation Leader since 2007 and an active member of the UCLA, Los Angeles, and DC Chapters.

Guest Speaker: Dino Pollock
Dino L. Pollock is currently Of Counsel at McCain White P.C. in Merrillville, Indiana where he focuses his practice on general civil litigation. He graduated from Valparaiso University School of Law in 2008 and clerked for Associate Justice Robert D. Rucker on the Supreme Court of Indiana and Chief Judge Charles N. Clevert, Jr., on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. A former VU Law student chapter president, he has been an ACS Next Generation Leader since 2008 and an active member of the Chicago, Indianapolis, and Milwaukee Lawyer Chapters. He is currently Vice Chair of the ACS Chicago Lawyer Chapter.

Guest Speaker: Sonja Ralston
Sonja Ralston is a Trial Lawyer with the Appellate Section of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Criminal Division. A 2009 graduate of Duke’s Law and Public Policy schools, she clerked for Judges David Tatel of the D.C. Circuit and Guido Calabresi of the Second Circuit before joining DOJ. Prior to law school, Sonja served as a Teach For America corps member in the Bay Area for two years. She has been an ACS Next Generation Leader since 2008.

Guest Speaker: Donya Khalili
Donya Khalili is the Executive Director of Skills to Succeed, a nonprofit in Kansas City that equips youth with developmental, clinical, and social needs and their families with necessary skills to thrive. She graduated from Yale University in 2002 and received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law and a masters in bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 2008. She served as a law clerk to the Honorable Boyce F. Martin, Jr. on the Sixth Circuit and to the Honorable Thomas N. O’Neill, Jr. on the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Before coming to run Skills to Succeed, she was an associate at Susman Godfrey L.L.P. in New York. A former member of the national board of directors of the American Constitution Society, she also served on the boards of the ACS Lawyer Chapters in Philadelphia and Kentucky and for her law school chapter.

Featuring: Chris Geidner, Jeremy Leaming
Chris Geidner is a Senior Political Reporter at Buzzfeed, and recent recipient of the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association‘s Sarah Pettit Memorial Award for Excellence in LGBT Media. Geidner’s four-part history of the Defense of Marriage Act for Metro Weekly earned him the 2011 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Magazine Article. He began his online career blogging as Law Dork during law school, and later served as Counsel to the Ohio Attorney General.
Jeremy Leaming, former Director of Communications at the American Constitution Society where he directed ACS’s communications efforts; editing ACSblog and shaping the organization’s external messaging on an array of priorities through the blog, a wide array of publications, and additional media outreach.
