Brown Bag Lunch with Professor Érika Fontánez, and Zeus
Brown Bag Lunch with Professor Érika Fontánez, and Zeus, the leader of a movement called Urbe a Pie.
Urbe a Pie is a movement that occupies abandoned buildings in the urban area of the Caguas municipality. They do so to establish community programs such as art classes, health services, and a communally managed home garden to grow and share food products. These occupations are deemed illegal and attacked by local governments. It is a movement reminiscent of land occupations in the 1970s in Puerto Rico and they all respond to the current access to property crisis here. The lunch will focus on property issues in Puerto Rico and how social movements are combating it.
