ACS Condemns Threats and Verbal Attacks Against Judge Chutkan and Fulton County Grand Jury Members

Washington, DC – A woman in Texas has been charged with threatening to kill Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is overseeing the criminal trial against former President Trump for his alleged attempt to subvert the 2020 presidential election results. In addition, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and members of the Fulton County Grand Jury who voted to indict Trump and 18 others for their alleged actions taken to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Georgia are facing threats and racist attacks. In response to these attempts at intimidation, the American Constitution Society released the following statement:

“We condemn the reprehensible threats and verbal attacks that have been made against Judge Chutkan, District Attorney Willis and Fulton County Grand Jury members,” said ACS President Russ Feingold. “Such attempts at intimidation are appalling and deeply alarming. Beyond being threats against particular individuals, these are attempts to thwart the rule of law and prevent the justice system from functioning. The criminal proceedings against former President Trump are in their very early stages. Every effort must be made now to ensure the safety and wellbeing of court officials, personnel, and jurors involved in these proceedings.”
