ACS Virginia: State or Local- Whose History?

As the discussion of racial justice across the country has included removal of monuments to Confederate generals and other historical figures, Virginia has grappled with the additional question of who should control removal of monuments and other efforts to address racial justice concerns. To kick off the ACS Virginia Lawyer Chapter "reboot," we'll bring together elected officials and experts on state and local government law and historic preservation to talk about why this issue is so difficult for Virginians, and the ways in which the law has changed to begin to address it.

Featuring:

Hon. Sally Hudson, Delegate (District 57), Virginia General Assembly

Hon. Levar Stoney, Mayor of the City of Richmond

Tom Mayes, General Counsel, National Trust for Historic Preservation

Richard Schragger, Professor and ACS Faculty Advisor, University of Virginia School of Law

Moderated by:

Brandon Ballard, Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia, Steering Committee, ACS Virginia Lawyer Chapter
