ACS and NLG Present: Reimagining Safety in Hyde Park
The American Constitution Society, National Lawyers Guild, Impact Initiative, and Black Law Students Association Present:
Discussion: Reimagining Safety in Hyde Park
For some, the murder of George Floyd prompted a reevaluation of how American cities are policed. For many others, it was a reminder of how things have always been. At the Law School, it sparked a summer discussion series on policing, which focused largely on federal and municipal policy. But our own University community is directly responsible for policing practices in the neighborhoods we live in. The University of Chicago Police Department’s jurisdiction even stretches far beyond the University’s footprint, to Bronzeville, Kenwood, and Woodlawn. Join us as we discuss policing in Hyde Park and beyond, and how we can reimagine public safety in our community.
