Conflict or Confluence: Criminal Justice Reform and Sexual Crime

The ACS Dinner Table Discussion series aims to provide a space for progressive students to grapple with issues that divide the movement, both in its goals and practices. These discussions will be intimate and feature a moderator with an interest and experience in the discussion's topic. 

The #MeToo movement, in aiming to empower and seek justice for survivors of sexual assault and harassment, has revolutionized the public discourse. Following several high-profile sexual assault cases in which perpetrators received no or little criminal punishment, many have proposed increasing criminal penalties for perpetrators of sexual assault and relaxing the burden of proof in different contexts.

Can these proposals be reconciled with the push for a fairer and less punitive criminal justice system overall? Join the American Constitution Society and Professor Erin Murphy for an intriguing and nuanced discussion on April 15.
