ACS North Carolina: Reproductive Rights and the Law in 2019: Abortion Access at the State and Federal Level
Join the North Carolina Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society and the ACLU of NC Legal Foundation for a 3-hour CLE course. The course will provide an overview of North Carolina abortion law and recent litigation, a review of recent federal case law and cases likely to be before the U.S. Supreme Court in the coming years, and the ethical considerations when representing minors in judicial bypass proceedings. This CLE is open to attorneys and law students.
The course will increase participant’s professional competence and proficiency. By the end of the course participants will be able to understand:
- Recent federal court decisions regarding access to abortion, including cases that are potentially in the Supreme Court pipeline.
- Current North Carolina law related to abortion access.
- How the Rules of Professional Conduct and professional obligations to the client apply when representing minors who are seeking to obtain a judicial waiver for parental consent for abortion in accordance with N.C. Gen. Stat. §§ 90-21.7.-.10.
