Immigration Panel: The History of Discriminatory Immigration Laws and Policies

This panel will discuss the history of discriminatory immigration laws and policies by providing a historical lens to the present immigration debates. The panel will examine laws such as the Chinese Exclusion Act, the Immigration Act of 1924, or Japanese Internment. This will help us recognize that many of our contemporary immigration issues, from detention to visa policies to sanctuary cities, have deep “lawful” roots. Additionally, since it is Halloween, a discussion recognizing how different immigrants groups are often feared as "the Other," but how the defining factor keeps shifting.

Panelists will include: retired immigration judge, Hon. Charles E. Pazar, attorney and immigration activist Bryce Ashby, and immigration attorney, Fulbright scholar, chief editor of the Fed. Bar Assoc. Immigration Newsletter, Dr. Alicia Triche.
