ACS New York: Blessed Be the Fruit: Threats to Reproductive Rights in 2019

Women’s reproductive rights are under attack. So far this year, nine states have passed laws to outlaw abortion or forbid the procedure past a certain point in pregnancy. The new laws are intentionally incompatible with Roe v. Wade. Far-right politicians hope to take their case to the Supreme Court, where the conservative majority appears more ready to reverse its ruling in Roe than ever before.

Join the ACS New York Lawyer Chapter, the ACS NYU School of Law Student Chapter, the NYU School of Law’s Brennan Center for Justice, and legal experts Melissa Murray, Reva Siegel, and Kate Shaw for a panel discussion that explores the politics and legal questions surrounding contraception and abortion. In their recent book, Reproductive Rights and Justice Stories, the three panelists discuss the significance of key reproductive rights and justice cases. What policy changes would be most effective in protecting women’s health? To what extent are abortion bans a form of social control? What will happen if Roe v. Wade is overturned?
