Fireside Chat with Dean Strang
Join the American Constitution Society for coffee and tea, donuts, and discussion with Dean Strang, Wisconsin’s first Federal Defender. Dean Strang has tried over 35 jury trials in federal and state court during his time as a criminal defense attorney and successfully argued before the Supreme Court for the elimination of mandatory federal sentencing guidelines in United States v. Booker. You may also recognize him from the Netflix series, Making a Murderer, for his representation of Steven Avery.
We look forward to hearing more about Dean Strang’s experience as a criminal defense attorney in a system that disproportionately allocates resources among defense and prosecutorial goals, as well as his perspective on the role that state institutions of power play in controlling certain groups of people.
