On June 25, 2008, the ACS Boston Lawyer Group sponsored the event entitled: "The Day Freedom Died: The Colfax Massacre, the Supreme Court, and the Betrayal of Reconstruction." The event was held at the New England School of Law, and was very well received. The author Charles M. Lane, editorial writer at the Washington Post, spoke about his book on the massacre, and answered many questions concerning the role that the US Supreme Court played in freeing those responsible for the massacre, as well as the Court's rulings that led to the inability of the Federal Government to continue with the Reconstruction of the South.
