A Bill of Rights for the 21st Century -- 2008 National Convention Breakout Session

FDR proposed a Second Bill of Rights that would guarantee social and economic rights for all Americans—including adequate medical care; a decent home; protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident or unemployment; and a good education. What is the relevance of this idea in the 21st Century? With the nation now focusing new attention on issues such as universal access to health care, is it time to take a fresh look at these rights? This panel also includes a comparative perspective—e.g., constitutions of other countries around the world that explicitly address social and economic rights.
