The California Supreme Court's Gay Marriage Decision: What Does It Mean and What's Next?

On May 23, 2008, two dozen attendees participated in a discussion on the May 15, 2008 California Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage. The discussion was led by John Knight, Director, AIDS and Civil Liberties/Gay and Lesbian Rights Projects, American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois and Senior Staff Attorney, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender & AIDS Project, American Civil Liberties Union. The discussion, which was organized by the Chicago Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society, was hosted by Chapter sponsor Miller Shakman & Beem LLP. Miller Shakman & Beem LLP partner Edward Feldman introduced Mr. Knight. The discussion centered on the rationale behind the court's decision, litigation on this issue pending in other states, and the issue of constitutional amendments on
gay marriage.
