The Dallas Lawyer Chapter Presents "Farmers Branch Immigration Ordinance: A Panel Discussion"
On September 12, 2007 the Dallas Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society hosted "Farmers Branch Immigration Ordinance: A Panel Discussion", an event focusing on the 2007 municipal ordinance which banned undocumented immigrants from renting apartments, and the legal issues-including constitutional law, immigration law, property and civil rights, surrounding the litigation of the controversial ordinance.
The discussion featured panelists Marisol Perez, Staff Attorney with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF); Dunham Biles, Senior Associate at Bickel & Brewer; and Rose Cuison Villazor, Assistant Professor of Law at Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. Jenia Turner, Assistant Professor of Law at Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law moderated the discussion. The Association of Public Interest Law (APIL) of Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law co-sponsored the event, which was held at the law school, and was attended by approximately over 100 people. Local television media outlets, including local affiliates of Univision, Telemundo, and CBS news, were also in attendance.
